Cocktails were all the rage a few years ago and they still are incredibly popular, especially with the all-girl parties and with those people holidaying abroad. In recent years there has been an increase in popularity of a group of drinks as tasty as the cocktail but that doesn’t leave you reaching for the headache tablets first thing in the morning if you overdo it a little. If you have got spruced up for the night with the latest mens diesel clothes from Louis Boyd and want to boogie the night away without the dreaded headache you might want to dive into the world of alco free drinks.
Mocktails are non-alcoholic cocktails. Essentially, they contain all the fruity flavour of a cocktail but without the added kick. Let’s look at some of the most popular mocktails:
- Cuddles on the Beach (essentially the PG version of the popular Sex on the Beach cocktail) comes in high on the list. It is very easy to make this traditionally vodka and schnapps-based drink into a non-alcoholic version by removing the vodka and adding peach nectar or syrup instead of the peach schnapps. To create a sparkling version simply add either 7-up for an added citrus taste or tonic water depending on your taste preferences.
Mockmosa (you’ve guessed it an alcohol-free version of a Mimosa) is even simpler to replicate by simply using fizzy white grape juice instead of the apple cider.
- Nojito (Now I’m sure I don’t need to tell you what cocktail this is linked to!!) Remove the rum and add rum extract and an increased amount of club soda along with the lime juice and mint found in the original cocktail
- Blue Shoe is a bright blue drink made from any fruit-based cordial/juice that produces this vibrant colour along with cranberry juice and 7-up.
- Chocolate Mock-tini is a perfect drink for Christmas and New Year, although considering it contains chocolate and ice-cream for me it is a perfect anytime drink! In fact, the only ingredient not chocolate based in this recipe, is ice cubes. The three other ingredients are chocolate syrup, chocolate milk and mint chocolate chip ice-cream. What’s not to love about that?
